DJI Osmo Mobile SE Gimbal - first use (it's fun)
I think it’s a battery issue.. not sure tho Let us know if you fix it👍
Thanks and I will update on the outcome as soon as I get it sorted 👍
I see you didn't wait for the glow plugs signal to go out before you started the engine. This will cause your glow plugs to burn out quicker so I've been informed. Also I find turning off the engine and then opening the car door can act as a reset for the cars brain. Good luck, I'll be watching for more updates.
I love ACC. I actually use it in some 30MPH villages that are on otherwise 60MPH roads. Set it to 30MPH and you don't have to worry about speed cameras, and with your foot hovering over the brake, you actually have a faster reaction time if someone runs out into the road. It's also great for any average speed camera section, so you don't have to stress about not going over the limit.
100% you use it in the same way as me :)
it’s either battery or abs sensor- from a fellow gtd owner nothing to worry about and easy fix
Thanks for the info - makes me feel more positive 😅
Abs sensors 2 min job, buy a code reader.
Just done it on my alltrack.
👍
Battery could be dying, or a wheel speed sensor. If it's a complete christmas tree of dash lights on first start, it's often the battery on VWs. For some reason they're sensitive to voltage not being absolutely correct.
I’d lean towards one of the abs sensors? I’d connect an OBDeleven and monitor the wheel speed values, plus also look at what codes are being generated. Good luck, look forward to hear how you resolved this. Good luck and keep the vids coming. I’m itching to updrade from my mk7 2.0tdi GT model to a GTD 🤩
Yep, going to see what fault codes I get back. It'll be interesting. Thanks for the comment and you gotta get that GTD 😎
Rear ABS sensor?
Thanks - I've read about poss ABS sensors and hopefully I'll get it diagnosed soon. Battery has also been suggested so we'll soon find out!
please let us know what the root cause was once you find out and get it done🙏🏽
I would say your battery voltage could be low. I would replace the battery first.
Didn’t think of that, thanks 🙏
I’d say there’s a good chance it’s this especially if it’s the original battery, can start to throw all sorts of erroneous faults
I would say the same, typical for VAG cars to throw up all those error messages when reconnecting a battery, so it's possible that if the voltage drops low enough the car is shutting those systems down to try and keep enough juice to be able to start again.
GTD mk7 forum says common fault with an abs sensor?
Hove to set number 6!!! To all windows open and mirror is closed!?!?!? I have Mk7 2015 year
Well worth doing, it's very handy :)
Hey man, just want to say i'm glad you're posting video's that go so in-depth of the GTD. Can't find those anywhere else on UA-cam, so thank you🙏
Thanks for your comment, appreciate it...more to come... :)
From what I've read, the oil rings on the pistons get blocked easily on these engines, causing them not to seal properly and so letting oil into the combustion chamber..
My 2016 with 50k miles burns around 1l/5-6000 miles. Never had a car burn oil before so this is new to me. Car runs well otherwise. Had to replace window switches and sealed the speakers while I was there. Rear drain plug broke and was leaking water into the boot. Usual stuff for this car. Annoying but cheap and easy fixes. Great car other wise and I much prefer it to my 2017 320d msport
Seems to be very common. I've also heard about the leak into the boot, such an odd one, but glad you've got it fixed. M Sport's are a rough old ride I find.
Great video as always. Please please please map your car mate... Or do a video showing the difference if your prepared to come to Wolverhampton il let you use my car to test the difference it's night and day.
Cheers Doug, I'm getting more tempted by the day! Let's see...
Question Mike ..Do you have your foot off the accelerater pedal whilst driving?
Yes and I use the 1 & 5mph adjustments. I do use the gas to speed up if the ACC takes too long for my driving style :)
adaptive lane guidance and acc is brilliant on my gtd, so relaxing driving on the motorway requires basically no input as the car drives itself, just have to be ready to step in if something gets complicated or if road markings get bad
Great vid. May i ask what mileage it's running at now? Thanks in advance
One of My favourite feature’s on the GTD. Every time i am on the motorway I use it and relax.
Exactly :)
Class video Mike, I've had my GTD around 3 weeks now and I thought I could only adjust the ACC by 5mph at a time... I'm loving the GTD, why didn't I get one sooner.
Super, you got it then! I'm glad you're enjoying it :)
Do all GTDs have ACC? Mine is 2014 and pretty basic spec - no heated seats, sat nav etc
I might be wrong, but I believe ACC was standard on SE and above from around 2012. I know of someone with a 2013 GTD with ACC as standard...
@@mikereports I would like to see how it works when coming off a motorway, is it just a matter of turning it off and doing things manually until you need to use it again?
@@davidbriggs4323 If you're coming off at a slip road to a roundabout behind another car it will match the speed of the car in front. If no car in front, I'll either slow it down using the 5mph rocker or turn it off and coast up to the roundabout/exit. Zooming towards a roundabout at 70mph, I sometimes end up braking anyway and that of course turns it off. Then I'm back to manual driving.
All Mk7 GTDs have ACC as standard. You own one, but you didn’t know it was fitted? The controls for it are right in front of you. Unless you bought the car yesterday, in which case it’s understandable, you must be really thick 😂
@@ghostinthemachine76 thank you for your complementary tone, I’ve had the car 4 years, never used cruise control before and not on a motorway often, I knew it would have CC but not ACC and as the spec on mine is basic for a GTD I wasn’t sure
My GTD uses about the same amount of oil. I check every 3 months or so and always before a long journey. My method is to check first thing in the morning as its had plenty of time to settle and give the accurate level of what is in the engine. I top up and and give it a good half hour for the oil to work its way into the reservoir and then check again. Usually I use about 500ml of oil every 3 months, but I would say I that I do drive the car harder than most and often do longer journeys. I'm happy with the oil consumption and like yourself, always use the Castrol Edge 5w30. On a side note, if you ever want a nice road to thrash along, I recommend the A77 from Stranraer up to the A78 and then onto the M8. scenic and a few really nice sections to get your teeth into. Thanks as ever for the video Mike.
Like you, I'm not to perturbed by my GTD's oil burn, I can live with it. I definitely didn't allow enough time for the oil to make its way into the reservoir this time. You're lucky with the roads in Scotland - so scenic and uninterrupted driving in the right places. Thanks for the tip!
I have Skoda Octavia 2018 1.6 diesel. After service takes about 13-15 thousand kilometres when 0.5 liters oli ad take up max level.169 000km or 100 000 miles driven car.But next 10 000km oil level drops 0.5 liter. And then is change time
Do you have line hold assistant?
Unfortunately not on mine.
@@mikereports That’s good, lane assist is so annoying.
VW took it away from the 7.5
Yeah, I heard that, shame 👎
07 golf gt tdi 170ps doesn't use a drop of oil and thats got 72000 on the clock plus iv hammerd it for the past 12 year and it will get some on the way home later
Vw's are oil refineries, I'm a qualified VW mechanic and we were having a lot of brand new cars burning a litre every 1000km, vw solution was a different pcv valve and a more rigid crank oil seal, if that did not decrease oil consumption a replacement of pistons and rings is then authorised. Do not buy a vw,audi, seat or scoda, all junk, Japanese for reliability.
10yr old Seat Leon FR with the same Underpinnings & engine as your Golf, mine uses no oil between its servicing. only done 41000 miles tho. Its a keeper with all that torque & £20 roadtax
Thanks for sharing this. So far so good then :)
always measure your oil on a perfectly level surface. Golfs are always very sensitive to this. I always measure it at the same spot which I know is perfectly level.
You have covered very little miles for a diesel, short and small drives. Get petrol if you not doing 25k+, cost is the same. PS:I would not want to buy 2nd hand diesel which cover 5k miles a year..
i do 2000/3000 miles a year in mine (SO WHAT) its long since paid for & owes me nothing. 58mpg & all that torque that only a 300hp plus petrol car can dream of, with 35mpg no thanks. ive not even changed exhausts on several diesel cars over the last 25years. kept them all over 10years. Fuel Card Diesel which is on ave 15/20ppl less than ave joe can get at any garage aswell. i run another 4wd vehicle thats a diesel & its 20year old in august. no interest in petrol or EV cars iam afraid.
My 184 Leon is the same with oil consumption
Thanks for the info. Seems to be a common thing.
Had VW/AUDI for the last 35 years and if that engine is the 2 litre petrol or diesel, they both burn oil. My last Passat B5.5 2ltr petrol estate with full service history absolutely drank oil. Sometimes half a litre every 1,000 miles. Always used recommended oil by VW. Had to take oil with me if I did a long journey over 500 miles. My wife's TT TFSI was the same. My VW mechanic friend told me it's common to that engine. Cost me hundreds of pounds in oil over the time I had that Passat. Jumped ship to Mazda 6 now, doesn’t use a thimble full of oil between services and a shit load more reliable, always something going wrong with the Passat and TT.
That's quite sever oil burn there, not good. Mazda's are reliable, I had one once also.
Damn... that's really high oil consumption. I currently have 2017 Passat 2.0TDI 190PS with 160,000km on it, and it consumes about 500ml every 15,000 km. Before that i had 2013 Passat 2.0TDI 140PS with 190,000km on it and it also consumed about 500ml every 15,000km.
Yep, you're doing a lot better than me...
@@mikereports Sorry my calculations were wrong. I rewatched your video and did new calculation. You told that your engine consumes around 122ml per 1000miles (1600km). If my calculations are ok, than your engine consumes around 760ml per 10,000km. That is considered as negligible oil consumption. Your engine is healthy. VW dealership will tell you that everything bellow1000ml per 5000km/3125miles is still considered as normal oil consumption.
@@APARAT79 Super stuff, thanks for this 😊
I have a 2018 gtd and touch wood does not use any. I always use quantum long life oil. I had a Nova way back when I first started driving,if I used anything other than valvoline oil it used to burn it off
Lucky you. Wonder if the brand of oil used makes any difference? Thanks for the info
I had a 7.5 gtd for 4 years and used to top it up every 2/3 months (doing 15,000 miles a year)
Probably fairly similar to my oil usage...not too bad. Thanks for sharing :)
@@mikereports other than that I got rid of the car last year with 84,000 on and had virtually no problems, was a decent car. I’ve got a mk8 GTi now but miss the fuel economy 😂
Hi, can you send me contact details of Ford clubs in the UK please.

Lovely car. I have the Mk7 R-Line TDI and love it but wish it was a GTD, just wondering if you ever had the issues with water leaks into the boot or into the rear footwells?
Thanks Stuart...R-Line is a fine spec too. No problem with leaks on mine, but I have read about the leaks you describe and possibly something to do with the rear air vents. Maybe google that as an option. Hope you get it sorted.
GTD or GTE?
I've never driven a GTE unfortunately
Myself VW Arteon (2019) 190PS TDI. No oil consumption. Sitting on the max line from service to service. About 60k km on it. A friend of mine Skoda Octavia (2018) 184PS (I guess it's the same engine as your GTD) and he needs 750ml per 3000km... It has been like this since the beginning when he bought it. He has about 190k km on it.
Wow, what a difference between the two. Good result for you though and good to know.
Yes the 184hp (for example engine code CUNA) engine is known for some oil consumption. But nothing to worry about. My friend is approaching the 200k km mark and it's working perfectly fine even if he needs to put in 750ml every 3k km... I still think it's a bit too much, but... it's within the range it seems ;) and it has been since day 1...
@@lightee1019 Looks like you know your stuff. I'm happy to nourish mine with as much oil as it wants - luckily not too much. It's a great engine.
Indeed. Drive safe and enjoy your nice car :)
How many km are you doing from service to service? No oil consumption is impossible. I would bet that one or more of your injectors is leaking and diesel is getting in your oil and beacuse of that, your oil level is always on max and you think that your engine doesn't consume any oil. You can get your oil tested to see if coolant or diesel is in your oil. There are hundreds of moving parts in engine that are lubricated, and to have zero oil consumption over long period of time is impossible. Get your oil tested and im pretty sure that you will get some really bad news from that test.
I guess 500ml per almost 4000km is reasonable, most engines burn somewhere around a liter or so in 5000 or 6000km, no worries i guess, that's pretty good, my brother's Mitsubishi L200 burned almost 3.5 liters of oil in 15day of daily driving, when checked and at first we thought the piston rings were worn out, but i worked out that the cylinders have gotten too wide that it looked kind of like eggs haha, the problem is i didn't have any signs of oil bein burned or any black smoke, it starts up immediatly even when it's cold, and it had 15w40 in it, you're safe buddy
The comments on my previous video made me realise I'm probably one of the luckier ones. Some owners are burning 2ltrs between 10k services. Thanks for the comment, good to know other's experiences and what other makes are like 👍
I was under the impression for a more accurate reading you checked the oil when cold
I know what you mean, but VW advise checking at operating temp.
@@mikereports interesting, i didn’t know that, on a side note mine doesn’t seem to go through much oil, I’m not measuring it as accurately as you but it doesn’t strike me as being hard on it
Had two GTDs, both have used a surprising amount of oil, current 66 plate with 59k eats through it at a rate of knots.
Thanks for sharing - 3 out of 3 then.
I miss my 1974 Cortina 2000 GXL
Character, with great lines and interior 👍
My understanding is these use oil because there is a trade off between oil and fuel consumption due to the piston rings being slightly undersized compared to optimal. This means less friction in the bore and high mpg. The trade being oil gets burnt. I have a 24 yr old car by another manufacturer which uses no oil but does ave 28mpg. My VAG Cuna tdi uses some, and has since new, but does ave 60mpg.
8 years old is brand new to an average person
Very true
you can set the comfort opening of the windows VIA the key fob, in the windows setting - you can set it to open all of the windows, only the drivers one or, you can disable that feature example: your kid plays with the key and opens the windows, in the meantime the rain is pouring outside. Or another, did you know that if you leave your lights on Auto, and set your wipers on auto as well the lights go ON if it rains :) Or install stronger (at least 800N originals are around 500N) hydraulic Trunk Lift Supports and hold the trunk button for few second the trunk opens by it self :)
Thanks for the comment, some great tips there 👍
I love the manual. dsg is for connivence, manual for fun and control, the slightly quicker to 60 is a non factor as launching any car like that is bad for them and since diesels pull amazing in 4th and 5th your non changing gear all often.
anyone ever import one of these to the U.S. ?
Another good video Mike, it'll be good to see an in-depth video showing how to use the trip computer infotainment screen, etc? I'm picking up my MRK 7 GTD next week, I can't wait!!! Regarding stage 1 remapping I had an Octavia VRS (2011 plate) for 5 years I mapped that after 1 year and it turned it from a warm hatch to a beast... I also found the MPG increased ever so slightly, I would deffo recommend it, BUT it has to be done with a repeatable tuner... I'll be mapping my MRK 7 100%
Cheers Steve and good idea, I’ll see what I can do. Exciting week coming up - enjoy!
